Share
Portugal has an extensive coastline, 943 km of coastline which runs from north to south. Here, the search for perfect waves is endless, which is why Guerin wants to help wave hunters find the best ones.

From one end of the country to the other the options are many. Now all that remains is to discover the best ones. Let yourself be carried away by this tide, Guerin will tell you all about it.

Nazaré - North Beach

Right at the top of the list of best beaches for surf in Portugal is Praia do Norte in Nazaré. With world renowned waves, this is one of the destinations of choice for many surfers. Praia do Norte became famous for being the spot where the largest wave ever to be surfed was witnessed. A place that goes into the history of international surfing. If you have little practice, there are plenty of surfing schools to improve your technique. Among them, we can highlight Nazaré Surf School, Surf4 You or Zulla Surf School.

Ericeira - Empa Beach

In spite of being small, it fascinates everyone that passes by there. Empa beach is part of the protected World Surfing Reserve of Ericeira, recognized nationally and internationally. The proximity to the capital makes it even more attractive. Therefore, you can set off to discover new destinations and not only the best waves.
Learn how to catch the perfect waves of Ericeira at Pocean Surf Academy or Ericeira Surf School by 7ª Essência.

Peniche - Medão Grande "supertubos" beach

One of the best beaches for bodyboarding and surfing in Portugal. Medão Grande beach is famous for attracting amateurs and professionals from all over the world. The waves of perfect shape and tubular justify the name by which the beach is known, Supertubos. And to make the most of them, some surf lessons are ideal. You can book one at Peniche Surf School or at Special Surf 78. If you have some time left, take the chance to explore the Berlengas archipelago. The breathtaking scenery makes the trip well worth it.

Porto - Matosinhos Beach

In the North, in the sea of Matosinhos beach, the waves are not the only things you will catch. As soon as you enter the sea, it is also common to catch cold. But everything starts warming up as soon as you come across a perfect wave. The extensive sandy beach is ideal for testing your movements before entering the water. For a good warm up, nothing better than the help of an instructor. Fish Surf School or Onda Pura will give you that accompaniment. The proximity to the city of Oporto allows you to enter into seas never before sailed and discover a city that has so much to show.

Lagos - Amado Beach

The perfect conditions for surfing are due to the consistency and dimension of the waves, which make Amado beach one of the best places to surf in Portugal. Be prepared to share the waves with other surfers, because the excellent surfing conditions cause floods of surfers.  In order not to be behind the professionals, take some surf lessons at FilSurf or at Salty Wave Surf School and improve your technique.

Cascais - Carcavelos Beach

Extremely crowded in summer and winter, surfers don't let it stay empty. Carcavelos beach has the largest sandy stretch of the Estoril coastline, which allows you to perfect your surfing techniques before entering the sea.  Better than warming up alone, is to do it with the help of the 69Slam or Carcavelos Surf School surf schools.

Viana do castelo - Cabedelo Beach

Cabedelo beach is a crescent shaped bay. And the best is that it has extraordinary capacities to receive surfers of various levels. For beginners, the ideal is to start at the bay. The more experienced can venture out just a few meters away, where the conditions are more challenging. To go up a level, you can always take lessons at Salty Waters or at the Surf Clube de Viana.

 Sagres - Beliche Beach

The quality of the waves makes up for the difficult access to the beach, full of rocks and cliffs. Located at the bottom of a small bay, Beliche beach is very reputable among surfers. From one end of the region to the other, the perfect waves provide great conditions for beginners or advanced surfers. The surf schools, such as the Internacional Surf School are prepared to receive any student.
