When it comes to driving an electric car, it is important to plan your journey well. If you're planning a Portugal itinerary, you don't need to worry about charging your electric car as there are many charging options available. Charging time for an electric car
Many people have questions about the charging time of an electric car when it comes to eco-friendly transportation. The answer to this question usually depends on the type of car that you rent, as several factors can influence the charging.
The charging speed of an electric vehicle depends on several factors, like the type of car, the type of battery, and the level of charge. However, the type of current being used is the most significant factor. If you're charging your EV at a residential charging station or a public charging station (PCN), it will take much longer compared to a PCR - Fast Charging Station.
How to charge your electric car
While driving one of Guerin’s electric vehicles, we recommend using one of two mobile apps for charging: Go.Charge or Miio. These apps give you access to all stations in the public charging network.

Different types of existing charging stations
When talking about how to charge electric cars, it is important to distinguish between the types of charging stations available in Portugal. The two options are a PCN (Public Charging Station) or a PCR (Fast Charging Station).
At a Public Charging Network, you can charge your car with up to 22 kW. The PCN can be located on public roads or in private spaces, which can be accessed via a wall box. To unlock the charging station and make the payment, you will need to use the card that you were given when you booked at one of Guerin's stations.
Those who purchase an electric car must obtain a card associated with a CEME electricity supplier for electric mobility to unlock charging stations.
If you're in a hurry and need to charge your electric car, a PCR (Fast Charging Station) may be the best option for you. These charging stations are available in almost every motorway service area, and they allow you to charge your car above 22 kW. Normally, in around 30 minutes you can see your car battery charged to 80 per cent of its capacity.
However, you should only use these stations in an emergency or for longer journeys, as frequent rapid charging can shorten the life of your car's battery.
